Jack’s Journey
One of our rescue dogs, a shepherd/hound mix named Jack, met lots of new friends on this bright and sunny Sunday morning. We drove to the Monroe airport to meet Tom and Stephanie Campbell and their daughter Keira, along with Tom and Kim Heagy, who offered their plane/pilot services and organizing skills to start Jack on his journey home.

Gas up the Grummen Tiger, we’re ready to fly!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YDx7w2wGGdA/USq1HvfcriI/AAAAAAAAA3M/InL9tV2LOYw/s1600/IMG_0024.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

After some pre-flight preparation, everybody got together for the good-bye photos.

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-URQqaNQxb9c/USq2TBIuErI/AAAAAAAAA3U/kSy1MKy__7E/s1600/preflight.jpeg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>
<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”>

<div class=”separator” style=”clear:…

Homeward Bound, at last!
Jack will finally be on his way home this weekend! He was adopted in October, but it took awhile to get everything set for this trip to his new home near Chicago. Congratulations to his new owner, Frank.

Also thanks are due to to some awesome WAG volunteers and the non-profit organization Pilots and Paws www.pilotsnpaws.org, a group of private pilots offering their flight time to save rescued animals.

Jack will leave Sunday morning enroute to his new home via a three step journey: from Monroe GA to Somerset, KY to Greenwood IN to Chicago. Thanks to our volunteer pilots Tom (both of them!), Ryan and John. A big hug to Stephanie for coordinating the trip.

We’ll post some pics…

Emergency for Brenda

Emergencies happen when you least expect them! Our sweet Brenda, one of Honey’s puppies, was rushed to the emergency vet clinic with stomach pains. X-rays showed a foreign body in her intestines and the vet recommended immediate surgery. She’s having surgery as we write this. In the morning we’ll take her to our regular vet for post-surgery monitoring.

The surgery estimate is $1,400. All donations are appreciated – this is a big financial challenge, but we couldn’t let Brenda suffer.

Doggy prayers for our pup!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XeAbe83G8eo/UQ9Y1vNufcI/AAAAAAAAA10/cI9qmciXPfk/s1600/Brenda.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l9juMCbfyGA/UQ9YwySjaSI/AAAAAAAAA1k/c5gKr8rNfiw/s1600/Brenda+xray.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

<div class=”separator”…

Need Room to Grow

Here are a couple of our cute pups – Princess and Snowball. They’re ready for new homes, along with their brother and another sister. Come visit them at the Loganville Petsmart this weekend!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ajRX90LlL8g/UPegG_eyu9I/AAAAAAAAA1I/1Ff2zcIJU-0/s1600/Princess.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q2kr6d02Vj4/UPegNQTPnEI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/UCwVn_WFKvo/s1600/Snowball.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

New name, new life.

Remember Buddy, the dog we rescued who was diagnosed with parvo and pneumonia? Well, he’s feeling much better now. He also has a new name – Jake. Here he is play-chasing a few of our other rescue dogs. He’s a very sweet boy and loves to play – he’ll run and grab a toy when he sees people coming. Jake is getting neutered this week and will be available for adoption next weekend. We predict one very lucky family is in his future!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0qto7zX9sPM/UPJeBScSL6I/AAAAAAAAA00/l_9VgGGGjiM/s1600/Jake_edited-1.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

Puppies galore!

Look at these cutie pies – just a few of the 15 puppies currently in WAG foster care and destined for a no-kill shelter in NY in January. More on our new partnerships later – but hopefully this will allow us to rescue hundreds of more animals each year. Paws crossed for future possibilities!!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rMtByw0X1U8/UMa8zCjeewI/AAAAAAAAAzw/VW8BIa2io74/s1600/IMG_1785.JPG” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

A battle for Buddy

We pulled him from the shelter with an upper respiratory infection. Two days later he was also diagnosed with parvo. He’s one sick puppy. He received 5 days of intensive treatment at Peach Pets Hospital. He’s back with his foster now, taking antibiotics to fight his pneumonia. So far his vet treatment has cost about $800. Donations can be made on our website at www.wagwalton.com – Paypal “Donate” button is on the left. Thankfully he’s getting better – Buddy is going to make someone an awesome pet!

More room at the inn

Take a look at our new kennels! We had concrete poured in a 12 x 36 barn area, giving us a clean (flealess!) place to house more dogs. So far we have three extra kennels and will get a fourth when enough money comes in. We need a escape-proof kennel – you’d be surprised how many dogs will rip their way out of chain link and we’ve already had a few fence munchers. Best price we’ve found on a heavy-duty welded wire kennel is $549 at Tractor Supply. That should keep all our rescue dogs safe and secure.

So although this picture of plain concrete isn’t visually dazzling or awe-inspiring, we’re excited!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dmt1RSZgeZ8/ULJVEGwNNII/AAAAAAAAAy0/o2NqMeiEAik/s1600/Kennel.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”><img…

New beginnings

Here’s our boy Milton, aka Jake. He’s been neutered and was recently treated for heartworms. Hopefully it won’t be long before this good-looking boy finds an awesome home! Lovely Lola

Take a look at this Before/After shot! Lola is an amazing little girl who was carrying around pounds of nasty, matted hair when we rescued her from the shelter. But the folks at Monroe Vet shaved away all that awful stuff, letting her natural beauty shine through. ADORABLE! Lola will be spayed and available for adoption soon.

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Tpg-ihlmDA/UJStQ-d_zlI/AAAAAAAAAyI/t5BTdiv_VjE/s1600/20123164BroomHilda1web.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jHeeBCwgacc/UJStWYXgLdI/AAAAAAAAAyQ/nMgvuPy4GWI/s1600/Lola.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

A New Rescue Partner

We’re so lucky to have new friends, Pixel’s Posse, dba the Pixel Fund, from Maine. They do an awesome job helping to rescue southern dogs and find great homes for them in Maine. In fact, four of our lucky dogs left for Maine on Thursday – here’s Mr. Ed the Chihuahua with his new family! We couldn’t have asked for a better ending. Kudos to Deb and Janet and all the hard workers Pixel Posse volunteers. Can’t wait to do it again!!

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4NkaxSuzkTE/UIy_Ewb1r6I/AAAAAAAAAx0/bGgnhIf0xr8/s1600/Mr+Ed.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>

And the winner is…

Milton! He’s a WAG milestone dog – officially the 100th animal rescued by WAG in 2012!!!

Milton is a sweet hound mix. Unfortunately he’s heartworm positive, but generous donations will help us get him treated. We’ll post some more photos of Milton once he settles in.

<div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”><a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XY_niUGvqA8/UG-SfgZF6kI/AAAAAAAAAws/MpTH0xOQIHY/s1600/20122919milton1web.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”>
